Coscienza Divina//Divine Conscience

Signore Gesù, gli ambienti in cui viviamo, pur se affollati sono sovente un deserto per l’anima, pieni di tentazioni e scelte da compiere che tu stesso hai affrontato. Ma tu ci offri la possibilità di riscattarci e di migliorare, ricordandoci che “il tempo è compiuto e il regno di Dio è vicino; convertitevi e credete nel Vangelo

            Oggi era la prima domenica di Quaresima. Nella tradizione cattolica, la Quaresima è un periodo di sacrifici, riflessione, e preparazione delle nostre anime per l’accesso di Dio. Nel Vangelo d’oggi, tratto da Marco 1:12-15, Gesù viene tentato da Satana nel deserto per quaranta giorni. Guardando l’esempio di Cristo, so che non potrei mai raggiungere il livello della Sua volontà di seguire Suo Padre ad ogni costo in tutte le cose. Ma Gesù chiede soltanto che ci proviamo con tutto il nostro coure. Una grande parte della Quaresima è la lotta di superare la tentazione. Dobbiamo essere conspaveli delle scelte che Cristo abbia fatto nella Sua vita, tutte per la nostra salvezza. Non sto tentando di essere evangelico, non è mio stile da credente. Durante la messa d’oggi, mi sono reso conto di questa verità. Ho sempre voluto fare dei cambiamenti per il mio bene, ma i tentazioni mi hanno sempre bloccati dalla versione migliore di me stesso. E non sono l’unica persona che combatte con le tentazioni: tutti essere umani hanno la stessa problema.

            La soluzione resta nella coscienza divina. Secondo Velasio De Paolis, la conscienza è un legame essenziale a Dio. Ha scritto che la coscienza retta e vera è quell ache corrisponde ad un giudizio oggetivo di verità.” È trammite la coscienza che Dio ci parla. Ma come possiamo imparare ad ascoltare Dio più seriamente e di lasciarlo entrare più pienamente nelle nostre menti? È qui dove entra la Bibbia. Sto diventando sempre più consapevole del fatto che non è solo un libro di storie e che sia veramente il centro e il cuore del cattolicesimo. Come possiamo seguire l’esempio di Cristo, senza di essa? Quando non si capisce questa verità, si diventa un ciecco con una mappa verso il nulla. Ora sto cominciando a vedere.

Today was the first Sunday of Lent. In the Catholic tradition, Lent is a period of sacrifice, reflection, and preparation of our souls for the entrance of God. In today’s gospel, taken from Mark 1:12-15, Satan tempts Jesus in the desert for forty days. Looking at the example of Christ, I know that I will never be able to reach the level of His will to follow His Father at all costs and in all things. But Christ asks only that we try with all our hearts. A big part of Lent is the struggle against temptation. We need to be mindful of the choices Christ made in His life, all for our salvation. I’m not trying to be evangelical, it’s not my style as a believer. During today’s mass, I became fully aware of this truth. I’ve always wanted to make changes for my benefit, but temptations have always blocked me from the path to the best version of myself. And I’m not the only person who struggles with temptation: all human beings have the same problem.

The solution rests in divine conscience. According to Velasio De Paolis, the conscience is an essential bond to God. He wrote that “a straight and true conscience is that which corresponds to an objective judgment of the truth.” God speaks to us to through our conscience. But how can we learn to listen to God more seriously and to let him more fully into our minds? This is where the  Bible is so important. I’m becoming more and more aware of the fact that it is not just a book of stories and that it truly is the center and heart of Catholicism. How can we follow Christ’s example without it? When one doesn’t understand this truth, one becomes like a blind man with a map to nowhere. Now I’m beginning to see.
